Henri-Gaudier-Brzeska, New Rhythms: Art, Dance and Movement in London 1911–15
On the centenary of his death during World War I, this exhibition was the first to explore the French-born sculptor and draughtsman Henri Gaudier-Brzeska’s engagement with dance and movement.
Originated by Kettle’s yard, Cambridge, it included many of Harewood’s collection of the artist’s drawings and his bronze Firebird (1912).
As well as exploring dance, New Rhythms examined the artist’s wider fascination with motion, the physical dynamism of bodily movement, and wrestling.
